Bringing Your Puppy Home

March 25, 2026

The day you bring your puppy home is one of the most exciting moments — but it can also be overwhelming for your new pup. A little preparation goes a long way toward making the transition smooth for everyone.

Before You Pick Up

Set up a quiet space with a crate, water bowl, and a few safe toys. Puppies do best when they have a small, defined area to start. Too much freedom too soon can lead to accidents and anxiety.

Stock up on the food your breeder has been using — sudden diet changes can upset a puppy's stomach. If you plan to switch foods, do it gradually over 7–10 days.

The First Day

Keep things calm. Let your puppy explore at their own pace. Resist the urge to invite everyone over right away — your pup needs time to bond with your immediate family first.

Take them outside frequently (every 30–60 minutes) and praise them when they go potty in the right spot. Consistency is everything in these early days.

The First Night

Your puppy may cry the first night or two — that's completely normal. Place the crate near your bed so they can hear and smell you. A warm blanket or a snuggle toy can help them settle.

Remember: patience and routine are your best tools. Within a few days, most puppies start to feel right at home. 🐾
